LDC2 - The Peoplemap Leadership Teambuilding Course
A Leadership Development Course for Clergy & Church Staff
Vital Skills for Ministry
Interpersonal relationships, influenced by our communication skills, are the means by which much of our ministry is accomplished. Clergy & Church Staff who want to grow more effective in mission advancement can do so by increasing their communication skills. The Peoplemap Communication System is designed to strengthen communication skills and interpersonal relationships, resulting in greater mission advancement.
This course is especially designed to develop the Hard and Soft People Skills for effective ministry. These eight interpersonal leadership skills are necessary for long-term effective pastoral leadership.
Day One Understanding Ourselves And Others
This course begins with an introduction to the Peoplemap Communication System. The Peoplemap is a powerful, yet fun and practical learning program. Each participant completes the same seven item questionnaire. This inventory, with 95% accuracy in identifying your personality type, is designed to show each person’s way of relating to others, solving problems, leading and getting work accomplished. Each person’s questionnaire is immediately self-scored to determine their personality type:
Leader, People, Free Spirit, Task
Then participants will ...
- Receive your Peoplemap Inventory and workbook style feedback information
- Gain greater understanding of self and your communication tendencies
- Learn the strengths and weaknesses of your personality type
- Gain Insights for communicating with others who are not your personality type
- Consider how to strengthen your teams
- Apply this learning to conflict prevention and management
- Focus on increased mission advancement
The remainder of this course builds on the experiences of Day One.
Classes One Six
The Hard and Soft People Skills are extremely useful when it comes to congregational leadership. Some come more naturally to each of us, based on our personalities, while others must be learned. Our approach is to train participants to first maximize those skills which come naturally. Then one can strengthen and learn the lesser developed skills. The Hard and Soft People Skills used in Congregational Leadership are:
- Praise and Recognition
- Giving and Receiving Constructive Feedback
- Active Listening
- Assertiveness
- Collaborative Problem-Solving
- Making Difficult Decisions
- Practicing Healthy Accountability
- Mentoring
In Classes One Six Participants Will...
- Take the Peoplemap Leadership Style Inventory
- Receive the 180 page Manual for this course
- Identify and learn one’s Leadership Style Preferences, and how these influence one’s ministry
- Develop and Strengthen the 8 Hard and Soft People Skills that directly influence one’s leadership effectiveness
- Engage in hands on activities which strengthen these leadership competencies
- Hear examples and stories of ministers and church staff who use and do not use these leadership competencies well

Resiliency In Ministry
Understanding Yourself And Communicating Effectively With Others
“I feel guilty when I stop to take care of myself!”
How many times have you heard yourself or another ministerial colleague say this! Taking care of self is not only “not selfish”, but is a necessary thing to do. When we do not include ourselves in the care we give every day, we get burned out and become unavailable to the needs of our congregants, not to mention our families. This workshop will help you gain clarity on this issue for yourself, gain insight and support of other colleagues in ministry on this topic and give you opportunity to put together an action plan for personal self care.
This personal and professional development workshop for clergy & church staff is designed to equip ministers to engage in sustained, healthy ministry. Participants will gain new insights into a healthy ministerial lifestyle, into one’s own personal dynamics contributing to health, and will engage in dialogue about how to build a healthy lifestyle.
Participants will:
- Do a self-assessment for personal burnout, compassion fatigue and secondary traumatic stress and gain an understanding of each of these terms.
- Take the PeopleMap Personality Assessment to determine your personal type and learn how this impacts needs for personal care and vulnerability towards burnout and/or compassion fatigue.
- Begin creating a Personal Action Plan for self care with the opportunity to share and receive insights for what works from other colleagues in ministry.

The Leadership Coaching Project
A Coaching Experience for Clergy & Church Staff
Leadership Assessment Retreat Plus 6 Months of Leadership Coaching
How do clergy and church staff strengthen their leadership ability? Going away to conferences is inspirational and restful. On the other hand, few of those experiences result in transformation. The Leadership Coaching Project is designed to facilitate growth and change over a six-month period. The goal of this project is to help clergy and church staff raise their leadership effectiveness around specific pastoral leadership competencies.
The Leadership Coaching Project’s Flow
Leadership Assessment Retreat
Participants will gather for a retreat focused on identifying one’s leadership strengths and weaknesses. Before the retreat, each participant takes the Emotional Intelligence Inventory online, receiving one’s results at the retreat. The Peoplemap Personality Inventory is another inventory used in this retreat. The retreat facilitator will interpret these assessment tools, providing training on understanding their meaning and discussion about applicability to ministry leadership.
Learning Plan Development
Participants will learn how to construct a Learning Plan focused on leadership development. This plan will incorporate the learning harvested from the inventories during this retreat. Specific goals for leadership development and application in one’s ministry setting are outcomes of Learning Plan construction.
Leadership Coaching
During the retreat, participants will meet their coach and begin the coaching process. The following six months participants meet with their coach 2 times each month for Leadership Coaching. Most Leadership Coaching is done by telephone, eliminating geographical constraints. Leadership Coaches work with their clients toward reaching the client’s goals. Participants will find the personalized Learning Plan and Leadership Coaching to be exceptional tools for forwarding their ministry effectiveness.
